Default Replacing crank position senson....

Anyone replaced their crank position sensor? Just wanted to get a quick run down of where its located, and what all has to be done to get to it as Ive never had to replace one before.

Thanks for the help

You'll have to remove the starter (two bolts from the bottom) to get to the CKP sensor.

You may have to drop/move your exhaust to get to one of the starter bolts. Unless you have some amazing tools (like a shallow socket and a short wobble).

Check the wires for any visible issues while you are there. Nothing worse than replacing the CKP sensor and that doesn't solve your issue.

The " crank position sensor" rarely fails----IF you are getting some sort of crank sensor code--It may be that all your car needs is to have a "crank sensor re-learn procedure" done--This is always required when making major internal mods such as cams/timing chain etc
Any shop with a TECH II can do this for you---Sometimes crank sensor codes will randomly pop up beacuse of an electrical issue such as a dead battery or low voltage OR a high voltage spike-----

no codes, but it surges randomly between 2 and 3K RPM when rolling into the throttle. Ive trouble shot everything else mechanically I could think of including the plugs, wires, coils, TB, cleaning the MAF, fuel injectors, etc....still cant figure out whats causing the surging. Taking it back to the tuner after the holidays but wanted to rule out anything mechanical before starting the fight with them about how their tune is all jacked up.

Very doubtful it's the Crank sensor. Did you check the valve springs? Common problem on the Z06's, they break.

no hadnt checked those....I do have upgraded springs from when I installed the cam. The hesitation I have on acceleration is very intermittent...I would have thought it would be more consistent with a broken valve spring... I realize the crank sensor is a long shot, but at this point, Ive trouble shot anything and everything else I could think of....definitely open to suggestions here. The car was supposed to go back to the tuners last friday, but his wife went into labor the night prior and there were complications so he had to cancel....rightfully so. Hoping to get in back to him after the 1st of the year.

It's only a 2 minute procedure why wouldn't you eliminate the chance the sensor position could be off ? Do whatever you like on your stuff--I guess you know more that the Writers and Teachers of their own sotware--

The cam has nothing to do with the crank position sensor.

Skip a link when putting the gears back dot-to-dot and then you'll find out but it has nothing to do with the sensor.
