My driver's side window (2004 Corvette) sometimes struggles to go down. It will stop about 3 inches going down when it does.
I took the door apart and checked for clearance issues. I didn't see any but the window started to work fine. Put it all back together and (of course) the problem came back after about 8 times of putting the window up and down with no problems.
I did a search on here and found alot of issues with the motor or relays.
I'm thinking it's the motor. Is there anything I should try before replacing the motor?
Definitely, a weakness of the C5. As mentioned above it is a complete assembly.
You can however replace the motor and or gears without too much trouble.
Mine have failed several times (99 with 264k) because of the cable or the gears never the motor.
The procedure to fix is the same as it’s easier to remove the entire assembly even if you are just replacing the gears or motor. In fact, unless you see the cable frayed, you’ll have to remove it to inspect the gear box.
Two years ago, I replaced the drivers side with an aftermarket assembly and it just stopped working.
So my advice, if you’re a heavy user, get a new GM or a used GM.
EBay has a rebuilder that offer a core refund, new GM, used ones and aftermarket.
Search this site and you’ll find great instructions on how to replace the assembly.
Remember to mark the front and back position of the glass to the black weather stripping before you remove the glass.
Sounds like the cables are binding up as they get pulled onto the pulley inside the motor. Is it making any kind of noise or does it just stop? Mine made noise and would stop half way down. I could roll it up an inch and then roll it down the rest of the way. My problem was a kinked regulator wire and it would bind up inside the motor. You couldn't tell from the outside becaues the metal wire is covered by the protective plastic sheathe. Once I had it all apart I found the problem. I found a new ACDelco motor and regulator assembly on Amazon for $118.
