HUD question.
I am thinking of installing a HUD into my 2002 Z51 Coupe, I was wondering if my current dash cluster is HUD compatable or do I need another cluster?
Thanks.
Merry Christmas.

I added a HUD to mine but the image is not crisp - so I think you also need the HUD windshield, at least on mine.

I sure see a difference in my '04 Vs. '02. The '02 is very dim and the '04 is very bright. I think the '02 is just tired 130k miles of use. both are factory original.

Looking into the feasability to add HUD to my '98. Would I need a windshield as well?

Some guys say no, but GM put HUD glass in for a reason. If you read about the HUD design, you'll see what the special windshield is about.

yes, you need a windshield
it does not have to be a hud windlshield. when I returned my last lease, I replaced the windshield with a non-hud and the hud still worked fine. it might not have been as good but I coudl barely tell the difference. I would say do the swap and look at upgrading the sheild when you need to...unless you've got a grand burning a hole in your pocket.

this has been debated for the past decade
Do you need the W/S for HUD? NO , based on firsthand experience
Would it make it more crisp? Maybe a few points
I upgraded over 60 C6's last year to HUD, not one had a GM HUD W/S, they all are very pleased with the clarity
The C5 market hasn't responded to the HUD upgrade, I think the time for that was 2004/5/6...........not many are modding now

No you won't need the special windshield, the HUD works fine without it.
