very unusal starting problem
last wed., i parked the car in my angled driveway for lunch. Went to leave and for the first time, the starter did nothing. Gauges all came on, but when turned to start, the voltage gauge went too "0", no solenoid clicking, nothing. Also the steering wheel stayed locked.
Came back from work and tried again, still the same. Attempted to clutch start it backing down the driveway, didnt have enough speed so that didnt work. Once on level street, the car started just fine. Put it into the garage and stopped and started it over ten times with no problem. Went to the forum, and read, and read.
Friday morning, sat, sunday, the car stayed in the garage and started/stopped numerous times without fail. Had company coming so i started it up, backed it out onto the angled driveway and shut it off.
Just for the hell of it, tried to start there in the driveway.....again, nothing! Let sit for 6 hrs before i got a couple of guys there for christmas to help push it in, and the car started. All times that the car did nothing was on an incline. Have checked all connections and they are tight. Cleaned the key resistor with an eraser i think more out of desperation than anything.
Why? what? could possibly be causing this to happen ONLY when on an incline? Im honestly thinking it is the switch, but to do it only on an incline has me
And no....there are no drugs involved.

As to the start problem, you say that the voltage drops to zero but no solenoid movement. I see no load causing the low voltage, might be the switch, but the incline thing makes no sense.
I just had the starter etc. redone as stated due to this very same problem, but the wires were burnt. Replaced the starter "just because".
right now, i am leaning to the switch. This would make these things happen. But it didnt do it again on the incline.

I removed the clutch start switch just North of the steering wheel in line with the clutch pedal (corvette facing east). I also removed the linkage (about 2 inches long).
I heated the switch end of the linkage with a torch and straigtened out the first L (there are two Ls on that end). I then heated cherry red the linkage end again and created a new L making the straight part of the linkage effectively 1/8 inch shorter. Then reinstalled the clutch start switch and linkage.
Works great as I can now start the engine with the clutch depressed about 1/2 the way to the floor board.
Just in case that is your issue
