i am helping my bro figure out a problem with his 98 coupe. it seems that his rear spring has worked its way to touching the fins on the rear end. what could be causing this and how much space between the spring and rear end is acceptable? is it necessary to remove the spring to replace the bushings? if so, is removing the spring an easy task? thanks in advance.
No you don't have to remove the spring to replace the bushings.
Removing the spring is an easy task.
Installing the spring is an easy task too.
Spring should not be touching the fins of the differential.
Eyeball the spring to check for cracks/splinters.
Maybe the spring is just plain worn out.
If bushings are worn/cut shorter, replace with new.
More than likely your friend has a longer aftermarket lowering bolts too.
Good luck.
