Recently I had Patriot heads installed on my 2003 A4 and after a long spell, the shop finally gave me back my "take off" heads. Where are the date codes on the LS1 heads so I can make sure I got "my" good heads back rather then some junk laying around the shop? They were 241 casting on the car and I did get 241's back, but I just have a nagging feeling that they were not from my car, and I know mine were in excellent shape and only changed to get more performance.

 

241 head is a 241 head. I wouldn't worry about

 

If you can post the full casting number, it can help narrow it down to when there were made.

 

If your trying to keep the "original" parts for the future, I think it is something to worry about.

 

In my original post I asked where to find the date code numbers, can you tell me if they are cast in like old SBC or are they etched into the head?

lucky131969, thanks for that but I'm looking for the "date codes" not the casting numbers. I want to find out if the heads I got back are the ones that "should" be on my production date car. The data stream you listed is quite good and I'm sure will help in many aspects, it's just not what I'm looking for.

 

You will not find date codes. If you look at the info I provided, the casting numbers fall withing a range of production.

 

is anyone going to mention the dot matrix code on the exhaust side of the head??

also, look on the bottom of the intake runners, sometimes you will see some marks of casting year there

Steve, this is exactly what I was referring to when I said "etched" in one of my previous posts. This "dot matrix" code, or information must stand for something..but what is it?

 

I have a set of 241s, and they are devoid of any extra numbers, dates, etc. Now, I did find a pic of early LS1 heads, and the date is clearly stamped.
