Can't solve this puzzle need help with codes to get rid of them. I've been told by the dealer I need an EBCM. Don't want to get this part and it's not the problem.
C1283 - from another forum:
"I was able to correct the issue for the DTC C1283 by disconnecting the battery, and then disconnecting the steering coupler and turning the steering wheel 1 complete turn to the left and then reconnected it. I then took it out for a drive and the DTC did not return, the Active Handling is performing as expected."
C1288 - from another forum:
"This code has a TSB for a software update on vehicles built prior to vin Breakpoint 25106536. Only a dealer can perform this operation.
DTC C1288 indicates a fault at the SWAPS (Steering Wheel Position Sensor)."

I can't believe this worked. I've been struggling with this code since I bought mine. I drove it up and down the street and it looks like it's resolved. I'll know for sure later. I have to go to work 35 miles away and it always happens on the way to work. Thanks Seabright for the info. I'll post an update later.

I really don't think this is a good idea. The sensor is a simple piece and turning the sensor 360* is merely returning it to it's original position. On the other hand, if you turn the steering wheel 360* from center, you are probably going to break the clock spring on the air bag assembly.
I'm reading the problem and what the codes are. However, what does it take to clear them for good. Need help.
When you say clear them for good are you just talking about clearing the history code? If so just pull your codes and when you get to the codes in the TCS module hold down the reset button and it'll clear all the codes within that module. That won't do anything for you if you're still having a problem though... If you're still getting the Service TCS etc. on the DIC see below...

So... you took it into the dealer and they replaced the SWPS but you're still getting C1283? If that's the case I'd take it back to the dealer and have them center it properly. There's a chance the pinch bolt could've come loose and thrown off your alignment. You can do the centering procedure yourself if you have a service manual but since you've already paid the dealer to do the job take in back and make them do it right...
