Where are you reading about these codes? In the service manual, there is a section on what is required to clear the codes. Alldata website has the same info. If you don't have access to either, let me know and I can send you a PDF on each DTC.
The problems could be related and it could actually be an EBCM problem but the procedures start by replacing individual sensors.
The C1283 is a problem with the steer angle centering (the process by which the EBCM calibrates the steering sensor output so that it reads zero when the steering wheel is centered). The normal fixes are to replace either the Lateral Accelerometer or the Yaw Rate Sensor.
The C1288 is normally a bad steering wheel position sensor.
I guess it could be a bad SWPS causing both so I'd start there.
It would be worth getting hold of the procedures and going through them methodically otherwise you're changing parts on spec.
