Help with electrical problem
One evening while pulling in to park, I smelled a very strong unburned fuel smell combined with a rough idle, recieved code P0200 (injector circuit fault. Cleared code, restarted and problem was gone.
It resurfaced several times over a few days and was more likely to happen first thing in the morning or during very high humidity conditions.
After a WOT run it happened again at speed. The MIL lamp came on then started flashing. I took it home and in addition to P0200 I recieved P0300 (misfire). At this point I decided to take it to the dealer but first I wanted to run some scans so they would know where to start.
The scans showed cylinder 7 misfire, multiple random misfifes and the injector circuit problem. Since the problem was intermittant I had a strong suspicion that it was a wiring problem. The dealer was able to duplicate my observations and while running the engine at idle they were moving the injector harness around and the problem disappeared. They tried to get it to do it again for 2 days under various conditions and couldn't repeat it. They also agreed it is probably a connector or wiring problem that may or may not return.
They recommended i pick up the car and just see what happens and I agreed. The car seems fine now and only time will tell if it happens again.
There are no service bulletins for anything like this. If there is anyone out there that has a similar malfunction? Any help would be appreciated
If you can have your dealer move the #7 Cyl fuel injector to another Cyl you would be able to verify if it is a wire issue.
Also, if the problem comes back on the #7 Cyl, swap the coil to another Cyl, and don't forget the plug wire... you can easily move it to a different Cyl...
Troubleshooting intermittent problems is difficult, and the only way to verify the parts is to move them around on your engine until you "corner it and kill it"
Hope this helps,
