Default Anyone disassemble their FAST LSX intake??

I pulled mine apart for two reasons: 1. to clean the excessive amount of oil pooled in the bottom (just recently added a catch can, intakes been on the car for 5 years) and 2. to paint the upper shell black, the grey looks like crap, especially after 5 years. My question is has anyone done this, and can you get a replacement gasket for the upper shell or are you stuck reusing the factory piece? I know you can buy the individual gaskets for each port going into the cylinder, but I cant find the gasket that goes between the two halves of the intake.

Also any tips on painting would be much appreciated. Was thinking of using the black crinkle finnish paint that I used on my valve covers.

Thanks

Had my old style apart many times on the 346 build. Make sure the gasket is seated well all the way around. It's pretty easy to pinch and get an air leak. Never happened to me but I can certainly see how it could.

Doesn't surprise me. I used a little RTV to hold it in place when I reassembled it.

I’ve had several apart and have some great tips.

1- ALWAYS remove the inner (RED/ORANGE) seals and lay them out on a piece of card board in the order that they came off. They will go back on a LOT easier that way.

2- There are some places that will have a very small "filler" strip of the internal gasket. Make sure that you remember where they go.

3- When you install the inner runners to the lower tray. you will need to apply a beed of BLACK RTV in the groove on the bottom tray. The excess will squsih out and can be removed when you do the finish porting on the port opening.

4- I don’t put the inner runner assy in the bottom tray until Im ready to install the top. The top will apply pressure to all the gaskets and seat everything together

5- Where the red/orange gaskets meet in the corners (and there are gaps) I fill that area in with black RTV. Again, wait to fill it in until you’re ready to reinstall the top on to the base.

6- I tape up ALL the openings and plug all the ports except the TB OPENING and fill the whole thing with water. If you have a vacuum leak between the top and the base, it will leak water!

7- DO NOT OVER TORQUE THE COVER SCREWS! Make several passes and torque in small steps for the correct seat and fit.

This is a PERFECT time to port match the base to your heads!!

Here are some pictures that I took of mine while i was porting it:

I use this a LOT to shape the ports BUT,,, you MUST be real careful!

Hope this helps

You can call me if you need help. Just PM Me and let me know.

My FAST 92 was actually leaking (seaping) oil through those two little screws on the bottom of the intake.. It was actually throwing a H02S switching code 1135/55. removed intake, sealed her up, no codes.. Tried everything else prior to that. Tuner was having to add fuel..(20%)... once we sealed the intake.. he removed exactly 20%.. car runs great! The intakes are awesome if done right. Mine was ported by Vengeance.. purchased mine new from a C6 guy who had modified the back to fit. It too had a very small leak... GL!

I just ordered the upper to lower gasket set from thunder racing part #142-54022 for 25.45. I spoke with Gene Riddle and said this should be the exact replacement.
