That's a fairly decent sized cam. You'll probably run pretty lean with that big of a cam change.

I just finished a cam/heads swap and my air/fuel ratio with a stock tune at idle was around 18:1 which is VERY lean. Stoic with 10% ethanol is around 14.3:1. My cam was a little smaller than yours at 228/236 on 114 but my heads were hand ported 61cc 799 heads so that accounts for more air being pumped.

I personally wouldnt drive the car much without a tune because it's not worth taking the chance to mess something up after all the work put into the swap let alone any additional costs to repair.

Mine would not idle worth a crap till I got the tune. I would not have drove it in traffic no better than it idled with out the tune.

If it were me,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I would hitch a ride to work! It will drive like crap and your lucky if it even idles. Why push it and risk damaging it??

It will probably run but NOT very well! If you had to drive a short distance for tuning that may work.

Are you considering different (larger injectors) before you tune it??? With that cam and heads,,, I recommend that you step up to 36lb/hr at a minimum.

If you have to drive it WAIT to install them when you get to the tuner. Other wise,, IT WILL NOT RUN!

that is my dilemna. If i do the install work myself. it is 3 hours to the nearest tuner. i dont want to drive it that far with such major modifications. it almost seems worth it to just drop off the car and the parts and just pay antivenom to to do it all.

2K spent is better than paying for a new motor.

Join AAA and get the premium service. Then call AAA, tell them it won't start and have AAA flatbed the car to your service guy -- tuner.

That might be your best bet! Greg has done tons of cam swaps and has a dyno right there in his shop and is a VERY experienced tuner.
Would also be a good idea to change injectors to red top SVO's or something similar.

Right now I have everything I need but the heads. Fuelinjectorconnection.com hooked me up with a set of flow matched 36lb at LS1 pressure injectors for about half of what SVO injectors go for.

BC is right! don't drive it if you don't have to....if it even runs afterwards, 3 hrs is a long way to go to the tuner! Maybe a mail order tune will get you close enough if you insist on doing the work yourself, or gety it all installed and tuned at the same time... I drove mine for about 40 mins after a cam install once to get it to the tuner, (did some HP Tuners work though) but it was brutal and I'd never do it again!

Heres an idea to solve your issue.... Contact your tuner, and ask him if you can send him your PCM and have him install a tune that will handle the mods that your installing.

He will change the VE table, the idle air table and some timing and some fuel and you will be able to drive it there and have him finish the tuning. If he has your PCM, he can even scale in your new injectors and that way you will not have to install them when you get there.

Most tuners have tunes on file that have very simular modifications like yours and can flash the PCM and get you close to good to go in minutes!

Even if he does the mail order tune, I still would NOT hammer too hard it until he does the FULL tune.
