Default Short Shifter Advice

Looking for a smooth short throw shifter for an 02 Z06 autocross car. Had Ripper on an 00 but way to stiff to be comfortable or fast. Any satisfied with another product?

I had a Ripper on my Y2K vert and loved it. Now I have a Hurst on my '01 Z and don't like it. In its defense though, I haven't changed or messed with the springs that came in it, or tightened/loosened them. Either/or could make it much better. However, the Ripper I was able to just put in and enjoy as-is.

Thanks for the input. Remember lots of talk during 00 - 01 on CF on the Ripper being too stiff and putting longer springs in, etc. Had considered Hurst...so do appreciate hearing your experience.

The Hurst does allow for lots of adjustment, not to mention the anti-venom mod that would help any of these as far as "ease."

Another vote for MGW. Very precise and short. It does take some effort to shift, but that will happen when one gives up leverage. I had a ripper and it rattled and buzzed. Drove me nuts. To me the build of the MGW seems head and shoulders above the others that I have seen.

I forgot to mention, my Hurst rattles/buzzes when accelerating..quite annoying.

If the B&M Ripper was too stiff...than stay away from Hurst and MGW. They'll both be too stiff for you.

I recommend the RSD or TPS shifter. OR......C6-Z06 shifter

I have a MGW. The effort is not much more and your right arm gets a little bigger. The shifter is beautifully made and works flawlessly. Not cheap. Cannot be beat IMO.

Before you change shifters try the "anti Venom mod". It consists of putting a washer under the spring loaded plug that controls the shifter dent. It loosens the feel of the shifter. It may work for you. The washer is about the size of an oil pan plug washer. Whole mod takes 10 minutes and costs about $.31.

I have a MGW and auto-x my 03, the courses here you only have to shift once if you start in 1st or not at all if you leave in 2nd.

I really like my breathless shifter, it feels solid, shifts clean but not as stiff as MGW

Regardless of what short shifter you go with... make sure to try out the Anti-Venom shifter mod.

Its on my web site.... www.ToqueZ06.com (Anti-Venom 6 Speed Shifter Modification

It loosens things up a bit and its a cheap mod for sure.

Thanks for the advice. Think I have a MGW and anti-venom mod in my near future.
