Failed smog, monitors not ready.
Car has 5000 miles since the last battery reset.
The battery did get low enough the car wouldn't start. Measured 10v
I charged it up and drove 30 miles.
Would this cause monitors not ready?

IF the battery went dead, then yes. That's just like clearing your codes.

. . . and it isn't based solely on miles. It's based on "drive-cycles" - a complete warm-up and a complete cool-down. Taking a 4 hour trip is still one drive-cycle.

I'll be good if I drive it to work 3 more times? 3 x 15 miles.

The cheapy actron scanners will show the I/M monitors. Go to Autozone if you don't want to buy one.

Be careful though with the scanners in that you don't clear the codes prior to a smog test as this will start the clock over again for being ready/not ready.

If you want to get the codes cleared quickly you need to drive the OBDII driving cycle. (See link below). I ran this twice and passed.
http://www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html
Another thing I learned is that your EVAP will NOT pass unless you let your fuel tank run under 1/2. Its a pressure test the car does to the fuel tank I guess.
Hope this helps

Many states allow 1 or 2 I/M's to be "Not Ready" because of things like the Evap test.

Five (5) driving cycles are sometimes needed to determine the state of the catalyst. If the battery has been disconnected, this would be the case.

Adventures in Calif Smog land.
I was fighting this crap since August.
Got a two month extension from the DMV ($50) and one would figure that would be enough time for the tests to run.
Well it wasn't, and the state will not give another extension unless you get a letter from the BAR and then it will be for only 30 days.
After that you are **** out of luck with the state of Ca, and they know about the OBDII problems.
In fact, there is a list of cars that are exempt from those tests as they WILL NEVER RUN.
You would think that the state would say, OK, we will give another extension, but the price doubles and at some point your car has to pass.
That makes too much sense for Calif.

In Calif. there is something called a "Smog Referee", which is who you now need to see about this issue.

Hey Kale....make sure you RESET the DIC codes from your gauge cluster.
Bill Curlee has brought this up a few times, hold the options button and press the fuel button 4 times (while holding the options button) and go through the codes and clear everything there BEFORE you smog. Check out Bill's post on this
You must clear the DIC codes, THEN drive for a week or so and THEN smog the car. If it still fails then, you must take it to a tuner to electronically remove the codes from the system.
If THAT doesn't solve your problem, give your smog guy a double-benjamin handshake and call it a day

YES.
It would not pass because I stored it for 6 months and the drive cycle tests did not run.
Furthermore it passed both visual and sniffer.
It just would not "pass" because the two tests did not initiate.
It would have had one test run.
In other states they pass with two not running, but not Ca.

I didn't buy an extension, it was due a few days ago. I'm going to hit the smog place again tomorrow. Hopefully.
I did pay the registration.
Everything comes up READY on the scanner now except Evap. Guess I'll go for another drive tonight and hope it sets.

As long as you pay the $$ the state can't nail you for past due fees. That's where the real money starts.
