Default Question about BCM on 2000 C5

Hello everyone. First off, allow me to give some backstory to better ask my question. Here's the situation I'm in:

- found out my BCM is bad
- called dealership to order a refurbished one, but was told they remembered someone waiting several years for one and it'd be better to buy a new one
- asked them for parts number and asked if I could find a used or refurbished one somewhere else if I'd be able to bring it in to have it installed and reprogrammed and it work, and was told yes
- ordered one from Case Used Parts here in South Carolina over the phone with credit card for $250
- picked it up and before leaving made sure to ask if it didn't work for my car if I'd be able to return it, and was told I could.
- return to dealership to have installed and flashed and am told that it's worthless and I might as well throw it in the trash, and that the parts room doesn't know nothing, so it doesn't matter what they told me. I'd be better off buying a new one. Only thing I can do is take it back.
- Case Used Parts now refused to take it back and the person I spoke to claims he never said that, I'm lying, and they don't do refunds because everything is as is (although this is the first I've heard. Asked, and been told the opposite).

So basically, my question is: am I out $250 or can this part work on my car? The part number is: 10304930. I can find a remanufactured one if need be, but would like to use this one if there is any way possible at all as money is currently tight right now (due to school starting back). Thanks!

The part number is the one listed. Does the service number differ?

I was told my BCM is bad by a local shop that I've been going to for years. I came here and did some reading after finding out my alternator and battery were both good to confirm what the shop told me. Basically, some water got in on the passenger side and I started having electrical glitches. It started with all the dash lights flashing on, battery stopped holding a charge and car didn't want to crank sometimes (seems like something was staying on, so I went to source of noise and was coming from BCM area), some of the interior stuff (like door lock) stopped working. I noticed that when it did this, if I stopped and opened the door then closed it or turned off the car and back on it'd go away and be fine.

The part number is the number that matches the part. There's a different number for reman ones. I appreciate the help, and hope that's the information you were looking for.

Actually, the part number doesn't even match up. I just looked at it trying to find out the service number and realized that it's a completely different number. This is 0938490, and mine is 10304930. Case didn't even give me the part I asked for. They also claim that I paid by cash at the counter, when I paid by credit card over the phone.

If I wanted to take my BCM out to clean it (I've been reading through the forums and stumbled upon some threads dealing with that), then would I have to disconnect battery or anything first?

what credit card did you use? i would try talking to them about it. if the bcm is not the right one for your car i would deffinatly take it back, because they sold you the wrong part. if they dont help you out i would threaten to report them to the better business bureau. it has helped me in the past.

I'm looking into the BBB right now. I'd like to take it to court, to be honest, as they have lied and there is proof of it (even down to the receipt).

EDIT ** Just got back off the phone with Case and informed them that the part number is different. They told me the ID # is the same and the only thing they can do is give me another part with the same number, not give me my money back. Also they claim that when I came in to pick up the part everyone in the office heard their person show me the ID # and I said "Okay, thank you." and left. This is just after telling me that they can't speak as to what we talked about because nobody heard us speaking when I mention that I asked specifically if I could bring it back before leaving.

Contact Bill Curlee here on the forum or do a search on his info. Highly expert advice and I know he has a lot of history with the BCM's.

My apologies, I left a number off. 09381409.

Also, thanks to everyone for the prompt responses. I appreciate it greatly!

That number doesn't appear either in the parts list. Contact Gene Culley at www.gmpartshouse.com as he can probably best advise what the BCM came from. As stated though, you can clean your existing board as long as precautions are followed and its possible it might come to life. A quick google search says that number is for a 2000 C-5 but its possible the parts list no longer show it as probably discontinued
