i have a 99 c5 and currently im getting static from speaker beside gauge cluster, the one that warns whenever key is on position and door ajar
i did have a kill switch installed that was cut into the pink wire on the ignition switch.
static comes and goes but comes on even car is off, and most annoying when driving down the road, the static comes and goes and if you hit the reset button on the dash the noise goes away but then comes back.
i took the dash apart today and found the speaker and found that it is part of the gauge cluster.
sorry im so vauge with my description but this is my first corvette and have no idea of where to begin.....
This will be of no help in your quest to fix your current cluster, but I did have this exact same problem. The thing would be bellowing noise even when your 10 feet away from the car. I ended up replacing my cluster with a used cluster, and have no easy or local way to get the mileage to be correct now. There is a place that can do it in Cali http://www.aertech.com/ but you need to send them both clusters and I want to say they quoted me $185 bucks. That was on my winter plans to do this winter.... I had no luck in finding any specific schematics for this portion of the cluster.

Reason: Missed a word
The parts section. They come up for sale all the time. You may be able to get a non-complete one, missing a surround or something like that and swap your pieces onto it. Thats what i had to do.

Any place you can recommend to get another cluster cheap?
When I saw this post come up is said,, Self,,, he needs to talk to "Nver2loud"
Yep,, most likely the driver amp for the audio circuit but, there are ZERO schematics for inside any of the modules. If you are electronically savvy and wanted to experiment, you could most likely find the component BUT, none of the components have any reference data on them to get a replacement component.
Here’s a couple of post that show you what’s inside your cluster:
