Default column lock problems

i have a 02 corvette zo6 and yesterday evening when i got into my car to head home from work and i get a "service column lock" message when i turned my car on. my steering wheel is still free to turn but i notice i dont hear the lock engage anymore. i just finished reading the sticky concerning column lock issues and i couldnt find anything about situations when the lock fails in the open position. any ideas as to a remedy for this? or should i take my car to my local dealer to have it checked out?? again...my car is still drivable but id like to have it remedied before it turns to a more dire situation then just a warning on my gauge cluster. any insight would be appreciated. thanks.

So your column still locks? If so I wonder if the Dealer will still do the recall on it for free. I would not want a functioning lock on either of my cars. If you still hear the lock solenoid, you don't have an aftermarket CLB either.

actually it doesnt lock at all and i get the message on my dash. its a good thing that it failed in that position (if indeed it has failed) cause shes my daily driver. its more of an annoyance that i see that message when i get in my car.

Just do the CLB. $50 bucks and less than an hour of work. Keep your battery in good shape but as it is your DD you will be fine.

yea the column lock always functioned properly until the other evening. i measured the voltage before putting my dads battery tender on it and it was only reading 12.1 volts and was still reading that voltage after a charging stint. went and picked up a battery during my lunch hour and everything is working like a champ. no message on my dash and the column is functioning like normal. thanks for the insight guys. i was hoping this was gonna be an easy fix.

I would still get yourself a CLB.
