Ok, if I wanted to just add a cam which one would you recommend and what would be the cost involved doing it myself.

If I understand correctly I can do a cam swap and just change the cam and valve springs, etc????

The minimum you should do with a cam swap is the cam, springs and pushrods. I changed the cam, springs, retainers, pushrods, asp pulley, timing set and oil pump at the same time.
