My 2001 Convertible has marginal FM reception when compared to my wife's car or others I have had. I read a lot about the coupes having trouble because of a windshield antenna and some suggest removing and cleaning an amp located behind the driver's seat. I pulled all of the trim on my vert and I don't see anything there. Does anybody know where it is on the convertible or if it exists at all?
Check the connection at the antenna and at the back of the radio. You can access the antenna connection through the passenger outside taillight opening.
My 98 vert has terriffic FM and crappy AM reception
The FM reception with the telescoping electric antenna should be excellent. A real antenna not some grids on the window.
The AM reception is prone to noise however and there does not appear to be any capacitor trimmer adjustment.
My nylon cable that runs the mast up and down broke. Got a replacement from ANTENNAMASTSRUS for under $20.
Your problem sounds like a loose or bad antenna cable.
It's not excellent, but probably acceptable. I'm comparing it to my wife's Chrysler 300 with a whip and metal body. She complains in my car because a station 40 miles away is a little bit weak. I'll just live with it until I upgrade. I did try to attach various lengths of ground plane to the base of the antenna, but it didn't improve.
