Default Is this wiring assembly broken?

I was looking things over under the hood today and noticed a possible problem. Should the sheath on this bit of wiring be seperated from the connector like this? And .... what exactly is this?

Thanks in advance!

That looks normal to me.

That is the pressure sensor on the AC.

Typical Chevy part. Mine is identical on a 2000 coupe. Rod

I was afraid it was "normal". Wish I could get a few bits of heavy duty heat shrink aound it. It sure looks shoddy. At least when the A/C starts to act up I will know where to look for damaged wiring.

Not hurting anything but if you are worried, you could dab some silcone over the wires.

my 2002 Coupe is exactly the same condition. I'll silicone the exposed wire as mentioned in the previous answer. This forum RULES.

Look at the wires down near the starter for a real eye opener. Mine are pretty well baked but still working.

That is just cheap wire protector the factory uses to keep them from burning or ripping where they are routed. They clip them near the end. In lots of places they just tape the ends up with electrical tape in the interior and some under hood locations. It's not a big deal. If your AC fails I'll bet that is not why...

Get some good electrical tape and tape it.

Why would you be afraid it was normal? It doesn't look shoddy. The plastic sheath is a shield over the wires to protect them from abrasion not to make them look good. The sheath isn't a strain relief. The strain relief for the wires is in the end of the connector. At some point the strain relief has to end and the wires support themselves. I would leave it alone. Adding silicone there could have just the opposite affect of what is intended and by stiffening the wires make them more susceptible to breaking. Have had many cars with the same AC sensor with the same wiring and have never had an issue with the wiring. Quality isn't in how something looks but in successfully being able to do the job it is intended to do, which this does just fine.
