Last night when driving home my gas guage went from just under a half a tank to empty and the DIC says Low fuel??? I stopped and filled it up and drove the rest of the way home but it still shows now gas and says Low Fuel? Its not leaking fuel any where.
Anyone know whats up?
Its a 99 vert with about 38000 miles. I have had some work to it recently Heads, cam, intake stall converter.
Update..... Added a bottle of techron and after about 6 miles the gauge went back to normal. I plan on doing a couple of tanks with techron just to be sure.
Thanks for every ones help!! Steve

Very common issue probably discussed at least once a week. Run a search for fuel sending unit or fuel drops to empty etc. and you'll be able to read for days.
You may be able to fix this issue without dropping the tanks to replace the sender by running some techron additive through your tank for the next few fillups...

AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK!!!!!!!!!! Search bar is your friend there are plenty of threads that will help you though this issue and the what ifs that are yet to come! I will comment regardless so we can add this thread to the massive pile. Use the techron bottle for 20 gal. a few tanks. Since you already filled up go ahead and dump on in, then when you run that tank dry put in another techron and then fill up. chevron gas has techron in it already so go there, but eliminate bad gas by using a different gas station. (search top tier gas for more info) sea foam will also work as a substitute for techron. set your trip so you dont run out of gas
Thanks for the info ill go get some techron tomorrow. So as long as i keep gas in it i will be ok?
Im going to be honest i have been on this forum for 5 years and i can never get the search function to work right for me.... I did search "low fuel" "C5 low fuel" "low fuel indicator" and no luck it always pulls up pages of things that dont have anything to do with what im looking for. I always try the search function first.
Once again thank you for the replys you guys never fail me.
Ohh and thanks i think ive had that avatar for years.
This is a fuel sending unit issue, search that and you will probably see a few posts from when I was having this issue. What happens is the gas has deposits that build up on the sensor in your tank that sends the level to your gauge. The techron will break this up and HOPEFULLY fix the problem. I did this for A LOT of tanks and didnt work and now I have to drop the tank and replace the unit. if you put techron in every so often you can avoid the issue in the future.
For the Techron to work, it needs to be driven through the car as such. I'm not sure it'll do any good just sitting in there. Now I use to have this same issue long ago with the half-tank and level going to zero. Techon did help but it would still happen. I discovered on the TIS website that there's a firmware update for this issue from GM. I paid to have the update put in and there's never been a single issue since...for me. That doesn't mean its a fix for everyone. To add, I was also going through a lot of gas, re-fill every 3 days due to my long commute at that time so I'll assume there was some impact there in keeping the sensor clean in the right tank which is where most of these issues arise.

Try using a google search when the forum fails, usually the first finds that come up are from the corvette forum. works for me when the forum search fails

Good to know about the firmware i am going to look into this because the techron did not work for me!
Ohh and I wanted to add that if you clear the code you can see how much fuel you have. It may only stay cleared for a minute but you can get a quick glimps at how much fuel is in the tank. At least it worked in my situation.
Good luck guys!!
