Are you going to try and use the remote start? That surely would not be a plug and play. The TDR circuit will need fooled (or leave a key in the ignition).
I hate the aftermarket alarm in my vert (not my mod). The extra battery drain on an already overloaded draw can be a pain.
i believe there is a light green wire in the drivers door. there will be a wire on the aftermarket alarm designated "factory alarm disarm" i believe that wire will be light green with a black stripe. if this is hooked up correctly both alarms with work together.
from experience you are best off bypassing the vats completely by cutting the wires leading to the key cylinder and soldering a resistor across the leads on the car side of the same value of the resistor on your key.

If you don't bypass it you'll be in electrical hell. You can either use the method described above or purchase a module that will simulate it (you'll also have to purchase a key to donate to the cause).
Please don't take offense to this; but judging by the nature of your question I'm not sure you really want to take this one on by yourself. I considered a 5701 install on my C5 (picked the unit up very cheap off of ebay) and after looking through some schematics and doing a lot of reading on other forums I decided it wasn't worth it. This will be a VERY involved installation and electrical issues are a real bitch to track down if you screw something up in the process. Not sure where you purchased it but I know Best Buy will do a basic install for you for free if you purchase from them... Might be money well spent. Just please be sure you've done your research before diving into this. If this is your first electrical modification on a car you might want to get someone else who has put one of these in before.
That said... if you do get it done please post up your steps so others can benefit. If I could find where someone had installed one of these on a C5 before and actually gotten it to work I might have attempted it myself.
thanks guys, i think im gonna go ahead and back out of this one lol. I have done allot of electrical mods my self, but this one is lookin a little complicated! im gonna have a shop do it. thanks again
The VATS on our Corvettes is the simplest security system GM used. There are several prewired modules, manual dip switches or auto sensing and can simply be wired into your remote start to bypass the VATS while in remote start mode. When you insert the key the resistor in the key takes over and the circuit never knows the difference.
I've never put one on my Corvette because I park it in the garage but I've used these remote start modules on many vehicles.
Your installer will know what to do and it's probably the best way to go if you're not comfortable with it. Or, you can learn about how it works with Google.
Is it for the 2000 in your avatar? I know you said you were gonna pass on doing it and honestly thats best. But to answer the question, these cars really arent that hard. As stated the vats is fairly simple for a good installer to do and factory alarm disarm is in the door and thats about it. If you want it done lmk and I can find a shop close to you with a GOOD installer.
