C5 Alternators
Pep Boys Auto Stores Claim their PowerMaster brand has new built alternators for a 1998 Coupe..Their search listing comes up with a 100a, 110a, and 140a....The 110 is a chrome finish and expenive and not the finish desired..The remaining two roughly cost 100 and 170 a piece ..Any one used this product for their 1998 vette....Thanks

If the model and type alternator that thay sell dont MATCH what you have, theres a very GOOD chance the "Charging System Fault" message will be displayed. Sometimes having too large of a current output can cause Charging System Fault issues.
A secondary option would be to have your alternator rebuilt at a Starter /Alternator repair shop in your local area (GOOGLE or find in localyellow pages)
PM forum member EVIL TWIN. He is the resident ALTERNATOR expert and has all the info that you need to do this correctly....
If you want yours chromed or powder coated, have the shop disassemble it for you. Send the shell out and have the coating company send it back to you . NOTE! Make SURE that ALL the grounding surfaces inside the alternator are NOT plated or powder coated. If they are you will need to grind it down to bare alumimum.
Once you have it the way it needs to be, have it rebuilt.
