I'm almost finished doing a complete clutch change, including changing the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder and adding a TPE remote bleeder. Though I've been taking a long time doing it at my leisure, everything so far has gone well. I only have one thing left over. It's a small, very thin, cotter pin. I kind of remember removing it but I can't remember from what. Going over everything I've done I can't figure out where I was supposed to reinstall it. Anybody have any idea? Thanks to anyone who can figure it out.
First you say, cotter pin"Next post you say "Clip
Which is it???
You fail to mention what brand clutch M/C you installed.
GM, M/C, it could be the cotter pin that goes in between the fitting at the (wheelwell) side of the clutch m/c & the braided disconnect line.
If it is a black clip, it could be the clip that snaps onto the clutch pedal peg that keeps the m/c rod from falling off the pedal.
Good luck.
I did mean cotter pin. My clip response was regarding the m/c rod on the pedal. Could you describe better possibly the cotter pin location on the m/c. I'm using the GM m/c. Thanks. That sounds vaguely familiar.
Just type in c5 clutch master cylinder in Google images and you will see all sorts of pictures of parts and I'm sure you will see what you are looking for.

Did you do your own work or did some one eles help?
I recently did this job. I'm willing to bet it is the cotter where the roll pin holds the hose end into the master. Mine had one in it from the factory. I suppose it is to make sure the pin can not slip out. The roll pin goes in and the fine cotter is inserted into the hollow of the pin and then spread apart. No way for the pin to come out then. Easy enough to reach if you remove the bottom of the splash shield.

Took your advice and found pictures for confirmation. It was driving me crazy to have a leftover part, even if it was only a small cotter pin.

I did the entire clutch job at home by myself, on jackstands. I just missed that one tiny piece and it was disturbing me. Glad to have it resolved. I try to keep everything neat and organized when doing such a big job, so as not to make any mistakes, or at least keep them to a minimum. The forum is like having everyone there to help when you need them!
