First get under the rear of the car and get a visual on the diff. and trans. You may have to use some brake clean to clean off the grunge, once clean drive the car a short distance then get back under and see if you can spot where the fluid is comming from. Could be several things, drain plug, trans pan, diff. breather etc. You need to isolate where it is dripping from first.
Had this happen to my '01, it was leaking between the diff and the transmission. The shop that did the repair said it was common, also had the driverside axle seal done at the same time. 2k miles later the rear was making a terrible noise, don't think it was related, but the two repairs sure added up quick $$$$$
Thanks...seems I really need a professional to determine the exact cause...don't really care for $$$$ part, but do appreicate your reply...hopefully, I can get up to "speed" on this forum.
My 2001 C5 has begun to leave ATF droppings...about the size of silver dollar...any suggestions/experiences to share with a newby here?
Also, any suggestions on a Haynes type manual?
Get the Factory Manuals. Either the DVD version or Paper. The DVD version is easier to use since it is searchable. The paper ones come in 3 volumes and run about 1400 pages.
Had a friend that this happen to. He spent numerous hours trying to find the leak. Ended up being the wifes new boyfriends car that leaked. This is a serious situation, find that leak ASAP!.
that was the first thing I checked...wife's new boyfriend rides a Harley which explains all the oil leaks on the driveway...BUT...it's is the ATF that REALLY concerns me.

ps: told wife have Harley park on the grass
I know it sounds funny. However,It's a true story. My friend is very **** when it comes to his cars and his house. Everything has to be perfect.
He spent over two months tracking down an oils leak he didn't have.
I personally have had tranny leaks from the rear part of the tranny oil pan an it's not uncommon for the tranny to spit out some oil out the breather tube. It will run out where the tranny mates to the rear gearbox.

I took my first 'Vette as new owner to the dealership for a professional inspection...it is sad news...leaking between the torque converter & transmission.
$$$Repair involves removal of the entire *** end from the torque tube back...opening transmission to replace the gaskets, while apart the internal parts/clutches, etc. are inspected for wear & tear with bad pieces replaced for cost of part.
The diff is not leaking but it was recommended to have it's gaskets replaced wile the bottom rear of the car was out...only a small additional charge as the labor has been mostly done by pulling out the whole back of the car.
Not really the start of Corvette ownership I have been looking forward to...just a hard dose of reality with the thought that I can not really afford to own a Corvette Total cost = $1,500.
Oh yea...the told me the A/C compressor is leaking & needs replacement to the tune of...you guessed it...another $1,500.
The joy of 30 days ownership have turned downward really fast...well thanks for reading & an advise on repairs would be greatly appreciated.
post up a pic of under the car near the leak, and tons of people will most likely be able to tell you where the leak is coming from.

First of all, since your car is no longer under warranty, avoid the dealership completely because they will rape you on price. A highly skilled mechanic will do a better job, and it will cost way less.
How many miles does your car have? Depending on the miles, it might be a good idea to get the diff seals replaced while you're at it.
If the transmission functions normally, there is no reason you should replace any internal parts. Get the gasket replaced and seal it back up.
For the AC compressor replacement, forum member RoccoC5 has a good write up. shoot him a pm and have him email it to you. if you don't hear from him, i can try to dig it up. i did this install with a delphi compressor for about 700 bucks.

Just had the same thing happen after parked for the winter. I thought it was diff fluid cause it was dark brown.
turns out it was the trans fluid leaking from a bad pan gasket.
$148 repair at AAMCO.
good luck!

Some postings below suggest RTV silicone may be a temporary fix for the fluid leaking from between the torque converter & transmission. Is there a better sealant like J&B Weld? Seems like it would be worth a try to brake cleaner the area, apply sealer of choice.
Any experiences/advice/comments welcome.
Thanks again to all, Bill in South Florida
