The service manager at the local Corvette shop contacted Tech Support at Mobil1 with regard to GM specification 9986115. The info from Tech Support confirmed that Mobil1 was the same as GM synthetic. Any comments either supportive or contrary? Will but Amsoil ATF in C5 tranny tomorrow. Thanx in advance. Rad. :smash:
Rad--I just had the diff fluid and limited slip additive changed at the dealer due to a diff seal replacement under warranty. That was about a month ago and the grinding sound is back in the rear end. I'm ordering amsoil tonight. :yesnod:
radstoy, I put the Mobile1 75-90 with the gm additive in my 99' FRC just before going to a driver school here in South Florida two weeks ago. I have heard no rear end noise and am pleased with this product.
Did you follow the "no WOT for 300 miles after diff fluid replacement"?
This is right from the GM manual:
Important
Do not operate the vehicle at wide open throttle for a minimum of 480 km (300 miles) after refilling the differential with lubricant and friction modifier. Scoring of the ring and pinion gears may result, leading to differential noise.

Wonder if this requirement is driven by the need to "mix" the additive and the oil by using the gears. Some, like Amsoil, are pre-mixed although they do recommend 10 slow figure 8's after re-fill to coat the clutch pack.
