Default Installing heads HELP!

Im in need of some assistance. Im installing new 799 heads replacing my 243s. I remember taking the ground off the rear of the drivers head and the coolant temp sensor out the exhaust side of the drivers head as well. I also remember talking out a coolant plug bolt from the rear of the head but i cant remember if it was the passenger or drivers head. I looked at the front and rear of my 799 heads and they have stops in them (blind holes) in the front and rear of the head. I sold my 243 and dont have a 243 to reference. *Where does the coolant plug bolt go?

Also Im sure I installed my lifters/ls2 trays correctly but I want to make it's correct before I torque the heads down tonight. I placed each lifter in the lifter tray with the small holes facing the front of the car, but I didnt push them all the way down in the tray, just snug. Then I placed the lifters in their bores and bolted the tray down. I went to do the other side and saw that on the opposite side, some of the lifters werent touching the cam so I grabbed a pushrod and gently pushed 2 lifters down until they touched the cam. Was i supposed to do that or it doesnt really matter?

Ok I admit nothing to add to help you with your question, I was just curious what was wrong with your 243s that needed you to replace them. 799s ported or anything?

Your 799 heads may have welch plugs in them instead of threaded freeze plugs. Do they look like this?:

Anyway the heads should be the same casting for right and left sides. So while the coolant temp sensor goes on the front on of the driver's side head, the coolant plug will go on the rear of the passenger side head. They're flipped around. That's why the spark plugs on one side aim toward the front, and the opposite side they aim to the back.

And the second part - no it doesn't matter as long as they didn't hit hard enough to damage the lobe (really doubtful). They would have been forced together anyway when you put the rockers back on.

My 243s just needed new valve guides/seals and the rocker arms beat up the valve stem tips. They were the older stage 1 heads when Texas Speed first began porting heads back in 2005 and they had the 237cc runners and they had about 60-70k miles on them. While the were off, I figured this would be a good time to just upgrade them to the revised stage 1 heads that TSP offers, which has the 225cc runners and supposedly flows a tad better. So I went with their CNC ported 799s. Honestly, I had my 243 for 6yrs and I think, while they were off, I just wanted something new different.

Before anyone jump to stage LS6 2.5 suggestions, I thought of that route, but my cam won't clear. And after speaking with Spin, it wasn't recommened to have the valves sunk so they would clear. So the 2.5s were out and thats why I went with the stage 1s.

Also thought of going with TFS 215s/AFR 215s or PRC 215s, but I couldn't get the wife to approve with her becoming a maniac. I thought of going with AI 243s, but for new heads and they're port work shipped it was going to be close to $2k, which are about the 200-300 less than TFS 215s. Wife wasn't having it! So thats that and the reason I went back with Stage 1s. AI was going to charge $495 to refresh my 243 heads, so I sold my 243s for $800 and I recouped majority of my cost to purchase the 799s.

OK, I think do believe I took it off the passenger head, the rear bottom bolt hole on back of the head closet to the header/outer block.

That's what I figured when I was pushing the lifters down. No they hit the cam hard and all, it was a soft touch.

Got it all straightenend out. On the 799 heads, the coolant passage bolts goes in the side near the exhaust port and on the 243 heads, that bolt goes on the rear of the head.
