im installing lg street series headers with cats soon. ive read alot of different things about how to place the o2 censors. should i replce them how they come out, or move the back to the front? if you move the back to the front, doesnt the front tell the ecm to add or take away fuel? will the backs do the same? thanks for the advice.
The front and rear O2 sensors are physically the same except for the length of wire and the end connector. Yes, you can use a "rear" O2 sensor in the "front" position if you also add an adapter in the wiring.
To answer the second part of your question, the function of the "front" sensor (called sensor 1) is to give feedback to the ECM of rich or lean air fuel ratio. The ECM uses this signal to adjust fuel flow. The "rear" sensor (called sensor 2) is only used as an after-catalytic converter comparison to verify the efficiency of the cats. You can delete the rear O2 sensors (bank 1&2 sensor 2), turn OFF the SEL in the tune, and the car will not know the difference.
I may be reading you question wrong but, if you mean swap the LOCATION of the O2 sensors (I.E. physically move the sensors and harness to change the locations of the entire sensor systems ) NO,, you do not want to do that. It will not work!!
You can use the rear O2 sensors themselves in the front sensor positions. They are SUPPOSE to work more efficiently. You have to use an adapter harness to allow the rear sensors to plug into the front sensor connector. The connectors are shaped differently.
That would require you to DELETE the rear sensors like chevy406 stated
Yes,, the front (primary O2 sensors) provide air fuel ratio data to the PCM and the PCM uses that data to increase or decrease the fuel injector duty cycle to adjust the A/F ratio.
