I've had my manifold off a few times and it seems like I always forget to follow the small vacuum line to see where it ends up at. I'm curious too, so maybe someone with more smarts knows and will tell us!

It provides vacuum to the vacuum reservoir in the passengers fender. The vacuum is used to control the HVAC Damper Doors which change the position where the air comes out of the vents and if the ari recalculates or comes from the outside.

It also provides vacuum to the A. I. R. Pump control valve.

So,, if you dont get it back on the back of the manifold, the air will come out of the defrost vents regardless of what you have selected.
