My next mod is going to be a set of full length headers. What are my choices and what are you guys out there using? What kind of power gains can I expect? Also, I'm not interested in shortie type headers.
There's a lot of choices out there. Look for ones that are jetcoated and/or stainless steel. A few of the popular ones are TPIS, FLP, Belanger, the G2 ones from LGM. I plan on going with the FLP's because they come with an X-Pipe and are completely bolt on. Whichever ones you pick you'll be happy :) Good luck with your decision
850 for coated TPIS including shipping is a good price, and AFAIK all long tubes are pretty much equal, at least on lightly modded cars.
Anyone know how much hp high flow cats are worth? The reason to consider the FLP headers instead is that they are a complete system, including cats, all the way to the cat-back exhaust, and they bolt up without welding or cutting. But they are almost double the cost of TPIS headers.
Right now I'm leaning towards TPIS. The $650 I'd save vs FLP could pay for professional installation, and a 2001+ intake manifold.
It'd be nice to see back to back dyno comparisons of different headers.
In my opinion the TTS headers offer the best gains for stock displacement LS1s. Their slightly smaller diameter primary tubes better torque gains in the lower RPMs than the larger diameter primaries of the other headers. Also, the TTS have 3" collectors, excellent quality welds and very thick flanges to offer them support at the head.
I have run these on my car with my previous heads/cam package, and they are still on with my ARE 436ci stroker motor. Some claim that the small tubes hurt peak power gains, but in my opinion it is worth knocking a couple HP off the top for more power down low that you feel every time you drive the car.
We usually always have these in stock. Drop me an email if you have any questions or if you are interested in pricing.
I'm using the Corsa Indy with an x-pipe. Will the FLP headers bolt up to the corsa x-pipe? Also, I assume any headers will eliminate the cats. How likely is it that headers will cause me to fail an emmissions test?
I had to remove my MagnaFlow x-pipe and use the FLP x-pipe. The length of the intermediate pipes and cats/ORP's require that you use their's. The two inlet pipes of the x-pipe are staggered lengths to accomodate the different lengths of the intermediate pipes.
As far as emmissions, it should be no problem with the hi-flow cats in place.
I have TTS headers and I am very happy with them. Quality. After one year no discoloration, no leaks, no cracks and i have never had to re-tighten any bolts.
Don' t forget the SLP headers for the C5 ! :yesnod: My friend is having a set installed at this time and he already has the TPIS/RK Sport long tubes, so a good comparison can be made.

No this is not true... Most Long Tubes allow you to retain the use of your stock catalytic converters. However, if your car has the pre-cats, they will be eliminated with the install of long tubes, but this should not effect emission testing.
The TTS Long Tubes mount right to the front of your stock cats with reducer flanges.
