I need your opinions on various run flat tires. You're probably going to
think I'm crazy when you see what my priorities are. I have the Z51 and
a 6 speed yet tire grip is not at the top of my list.
1. Run flats
2. Overall appearance. No slam but that leaves the Firestones out for me.
I personally don't care for the narrow tread and bulging rim protector.
3. Sidewall appearance. I like my sidewalls to "Bling" (shinny). A lot of
people don't. The Goodyear's have tiny grooves all around the sidewall
that keep the shine down. I'd like the sidewalls to be smooth.
4. Ride quality
5. Road noise.
Everything I've seen posted says the Firestones are best in ride and noise
but not looks. Maybe you just can't have everything but I thought I'd at least try!
How about Yoko's, BFG's or Michelin's? Am I leaving a runflat out?
Re: RUN FLATTERS...Question number 2 (All Are Red)
since APPEARANCE is 2 of your 5 priorities, and the tire HAS to be run-flats, I'd say you've really limited your choices.
The Michelin's are all-season, and they definitely won't have the look you want.
The BFG's are nice, but their wet-weather traction is not so good and they have no better ride/noise qualities than the Goodyears.
So, the Yokohama's are probably your ONLY choice left!
I went to non-run-flats and found great satisfaction in 4 of your 5 categories with the Nitto 555's, while spending a whole lot less money. :yesnod:

Re: RUN FLATTERS...Question number 2 (All Are Red)
IMHO the Michelin Pilots AS ZP's are as great in the rain if not better than the Goodyear's and they are not narrow tires like the Firestones Sz50's (I agree with you on this) and they make the ZP (Zero Presuure) version now which is a Run-Flat. They are the best tire out there right nowe as far as I ma concerned. The only negative thing about these tires is are they are not cheap! Particularly the rears! Peace. T-Bone. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...peed_rating=ZR
I have a plug kit, air compressor, cell phone w/ flatbed tow service number, and a wife at home waiting to pick me up if things get ugly. I never take the Vette out of town anyway.
It wasn't a money thing, but I really started to hate the car because of the tires! It's freakin' great now!
I have the Michelin Pilot Zero Pressure Runflats and I absolutely love them. They grip extremely well and I now enjoy driving my car again as the Goodyear EMTs were the loudest, slipperiest and the worst tires in the world. I would recommend these. Very nice ride.
lotzahp, this is just a question, not an attempt to "flame". With non run-flats, how will you handle a punctured tire, if it unfortunately happens?
Probably the same way every Z06 owner does. 1- hope it doesn't happen 2- use tire sealeant and just replace the damaged sensor 3- try to plug, or just keep it inflated if its a slow leak 4- call for flatbed
