Default Drowned Vette Update : Time for mods!!

Well, the damage wasn't bad enought for them to consider it totaled due to no water in the dash and cosmetics only costing $1K. BUT I got a lump sum of $11K to fix the motor alone. Well well... I found a LS1 (Intake to Pan) out of a 2000 Coupe with 4K miles on it for $4K..

The local chevrolet dealership (Got a few friends, ) that gave the estimate to the insurance company said they would install a used motor for me at a rate of 19.8hrs @ $68/hr = $1346... Well, if I do my math correctly, thats roughly about $4.5K left over...

I hear "Cam/Clutch/Headers!!!" "CAM/CLUTCH/HEADERS!!!"

LG MOTORSPORTS might get a customer! G5 Cam, YEAH!

I need some idea's on what I can do to make this thing have 400RWHP/400RWTQ?? What clutch should I get?

Also I will have a full LS1 (cracked block, good heads/intake) to play with or just clean it up and use it has a garage ornament.

GEEZ I can see it now. A boatload of vettes all lined up at a known flooding area like lemmings.

Glad it's working out for you.

Awesome news, bud-- but if I were you, unless your clutch is really messed up, I'd get heads/cam together with the headers-- and replace the clutch only when you need to-- you'll get a MUCH bigger kick in the pants that way :smash:

Glad to hear things are working out. Sell that old motor for some additional mod money. I also second going with head/cam package.

If I were you, I wouldn't buy a stock longblock. Go with an ARE or MTI shortblock with their heads/cam, it'd probably end up costing you about the same (depending on what you want, obviously 422ci is going to cost more). There's nothing like the piece of mind from a built shortblock. Nitrous? No problem. Supercharger? No problem. :D :D

To carry the above thread a little further, you may also want to talk to your engine builder about the install. No need to install the motor and then have someone else dis-assemble to install parts.

You didn't buy that 4k LS1 motor already did you? If not, I would take the advise of the last few post and call some tuners and see about getting something built for you...11k and some negotiating can get you a long ways.
