Default Cam info on lsa differences.

I was wondering after researching cam shafts if a difference in lsa will change the hp number of a cam.

To say that everything else is the same on 2 cams yet one is on a say 113 and the other a 115lsa?

I know the sound will be different. One more choppier than the other. But my question is more about a dyno number.

I know the the 115 will idle easier and be a better DD cam but I'm more interested in a proposed hp difference with everything being exactly the same. Same heads, car, gears, headers, everything.

Looking for everyones opinion on this.

The only thing I could think of is with a different lsa the ILC is different and the valves will be opening at different points. But when spec-ing a cam from a company like comp cams, you can also choose the same ILC no matter the lsa of choice.

Granted the figures will probably be able to be ground into a cam blank but it's very obvious a LSA with a ILC of something rediculous like 106 will not be a practical or common choice. So I guess I'd like to keep the discussion as close to real world as possible.

Looking forward to some depots from some cam guru's. I love to learn

Thanks for the post. But I'm looking for more of an example of rwhp differences. I have books and things that offer the information in the link you posted. But even tho I have the info it is Stil a good example for other people to read.

Hp will be about the same.

the 113 lsa will peak sooner then the 115 lsa

When u say peak I assume your saying hp? So the 115 will peak later but will the trq come on lower in the rpm range? And the opposite on the 113?

Both. Remember TQ is measured, HP is calculated from TQ and RPMs

Will changing the ILC change the power band? I know that the ILC is usually what the lsa is but with the ability to grind it into the cam at whatever value you want, with in reason, could a 113 be changed to have a curve like a 115 while keeping the nice choppy sound?

then you are chaining the dynamics of the cam

There really is not much difference between a 113 and a 115. Just get the 113

once you start getting an LSA less then 112, +1 or +2 or something like a 110 +4 then you see differences.

If you like the choppy idle a 112 is great.

I run a 224/224 581/581 112+4 chops like a son of a gun. Of course solid motor mounts help that too.

Well I've had a few different ones. My current cam that in my bukd at the moment is a 231LSL/232XER .617/.595 on a 115 LSA with an ILC of 114 the math I did comes out to a .5 degree of overlap. I spec'd it for a turbo install in the future. I was just wondering how far off this perticular cam was compared to a similar cam with a 113 LSA of which I can find numerous dyno numbers on.

I haven't finished my build yet so I won't know my cams numbers for a couple more weeks. I was just going over everything I have put into this build and figured I'd get an opinion or two and maybe learn something as well.

Thanks for the replies.

That is an interesting graph. It seems the blue line, whichever cam that was, made a little more trq but I see there was a tad bit of temp difference. And being that the bottom sys Houston Texas I know how the humidity can fluxuate easily. I'm 80 from Houston myself.

I'm very interested in getting my car on the dyno to see what happens.

That's interesting. Great info. I hope the cam I spec'd works well. I guess I can get a round about guess with the guys that are running similar cams with 113 lsa's.

But once the buffer goes on it's a whole new ball game

I can't wait to get this feeling
