happened a couple of days ago, went to put on the parking brake, everything was fine at first and then suddenly there was a pop and the handle freely came up higher than it usually does when the brake is fully engaged.
I still have parking brakes, I've tested it, but I hear this pop every time I put the brake on now, not as loud as the first time, but I can hear most of the time. sounds like its coming from the rear passenger's side. could I have broken one of the cables but not the other? or did something just loosen up that needs to be re-tightened?
at least yours engages. mine seems to be completely disconnected at this point. haven't taken the time to check it out. Try to locate the origin on the noise and start from there. there is a lot that can go wrong under the console. You can also check around the rear suspension and brakes to make sure nothing has slipped off.
One thing to check whenever you loose the parking brake on a C5 is the lever mechanism itself. When I lost the parking brake on my 98 it was due to the factory grease in the pawl mechanism having turned to wax and freezing everything up. My brake cables and rear bands were fine. Just a thought.
