I recently purchased a 2004 coupe. It has less tha 11,000 miles on it. However, when you open the drivers door, there is supposed to be a stop about half way then goes to full open. The 1/2 way stop doesn't work. (passenger door does).
With that low mileage I don't think it could have worn out. Is there any suggestions you folks might have other than replacing the lower hinge? The body shop wants some $200 to put in the $70 part. I am retired and pretty much blew the wad on the purchase so am trying to economize if possible.
I went to my local GM dealership and ordered a hinge myself. Mine was the top hinge but it went in fairly easy and the part was about 70 dollars. If you have a floor jack to support the door its a pretty easy job. Thats about the easiest way out. The hardest part is to align everything when you get the new hinge reinstalled. Good luck I hope I helped
How hard was it to get the old one out? Do you have to remove the door panel and/or the inside kick panel? (are those just snap in) Is realigning it just a matter of trial and error?
5 minutes really not bad at all. I didnt do the bottom one so I can only assume by having looked at it, it would be about the same. No panel removal. Just a wrench to remove. Mark the original hinge before you take it out so you know the new one will be close to where the old one was. May have to adjust the door striker as well. Youll need a star socket to adust the. Overall not a bad job to do.
