Default New Exhaust now check engine light

I just put headers back exhaust on sounds good looks good and now check engine light came on. Is it common for the light to come on after changing the exhaust system. Ive only driven maybe 15 to 20 miles so far not sure if I need to drive more to rest set computer setting and light go out after more driving.
Have not checked the codes yet so P Oed right now I will check that in the morning. Thanks for any information or trent I need to know about.

Normally, you would require a tune with the installation of headers. This will maximize the benefits of the new exhaust flow and fix any CE issues. Any exhaust modification after the cats would not normally require a tune.

I have the full XSPower headers and catback. Mine came on also after the install. I have a Diablo Sport tunner and got a tune from Lew. Installed with my Diablo Sport and tuned out the back O2 sensors. I am still dialing in the tune and then will install fast intake with different rocker arms. If you have Diablo equipment, then check out http://www.diablewtune.com/
Lew can set you up with a tune and get the most out of your car.
Good luck!

I have the same headers, and I put the new cats from them and X pipe so I would not have any problem with the check engine light to pass Safty inspection with out tuneing the 02's out. I will have to get it done then because I can't stand that light being on. Thanks for the reply to my message...

This thread is useless until you check the codes. Until then, it's just a guess.

My car with XSpower headers with cats has never set a rear O2 sensor code in > 10k miles.

My wild guess is slow O2 response....

Pulled code today and its P1153 and I'm thinking it a exhaust leak, I heard it riding next to a wall tonight, so I will fix that and reset light and see if it stays out. Thanks for your responce and time with this....

I have the XSpower system also...

You will have to either quit driving it so easy or get that one tuned out. You could try new O2 sensors but I can't say that will work. Finally, you could also confirm the O2 heaters are getting full power.

I checked everything this morning and tightened all the bolts again and the passenger side header gasket is leaking. Must replace, I knew I should not have used those gaskets that were provide with those headers.

Make sure you didn't reverse the sensor wiring connections too...

When you install the new gaskets if you still have the codes, stop by the house and I scan your O2's before you drop any coin.

did the CEL go away? You may want to check for the catalytic converter inefficiency P0420 code if it is. your new exhaust probably uses high flow cats which will throw this code without getting the rear o2 sensors tuned out.

The only code that I got was P1153 only, I will be replacing gaskets this week and hopfully my code will clear up. Passenger side was leaking bad enough to smell in side and it did not code out and light come on untile that happen.

I have a full Dyno and tune and after 129 mile check engine light is back on, tuner told me the fronts mite be ging and sure enough P 1153 and 1133 poped up, but car runs great and no rich fuel smell and did a 250 mile trip and adverged 28.6 MPG. So front 02's need replacing now. What brand name works best and less problems. Thanks

When did those codes come up?

What is your highway mileage while cruising at say 60mph?

Those codes are fairly common with header installs and are usually just turned off. But, you can spend $200 and replace the sensors before finding you need to turn them off if you want.

The codes were there before the tune and 120 plus mile after the dyno and tune same codes came back. Fuel mileage cruising at 60 the instand mileage goes from 31 to 33 or 34 back to 30/31 just depends on the road. Yesterday was from Jacksonville NC to Myrtle Beach area and most of it was on 17 south on north in small towns with round trip adverage 28.6. I've was reading on a trend on fourm but can't find it again where someone pulled front 02's and drilled 8 small hole evenly and put them back and he said it allow them to heat up sooner and fixed the codes from coming back. What do you think about that?

Your fuel mileage is good so I'd just turn the codes off and keep driving.

Can the tuner turn the codes off with out having to retune or can they be turned off with a hand held tuner.
