I have the dual climate control which I replaced a year or so ago due to the dim display problem. I got a refurbished one from a guy who fixes the soldering and replaces the bulbs. Not sure what bulbs he used, but the unit would heat up to the point of being uncomfortable when you touched it. I had TStar replace the bulbs and all has been well until now.
The driver temperature control **** will only change the temperature one degree. If you rotate it clockwise it will go down one degree and if you keep rotating it it will flip back up to the original setting. You can change it the one degree, let the display flip back to external temperature, and try again to get it to go down one more degree. So, it is possible to lower it that way but it is tedious, and not the way it is supposed to be. It is the same when increasing the temp. Also, it will not turn off. I can change the mode and the fan speed, but cannot turn it off.
I just got the car back from the shop, where they put a new top on (convertible) and changed out the A/C belt, tensioner, and pulley.
I need to check the battery connections - I know all kinds of weird things can happen when the connections are not good and tight, so maybe the shop didn't tighten it up quite tight enough. Other than that, I dunno . . .
I need to get this fixed soon, though, as my wife has agreed to go on an 8-day/2400 mile road trip during Spring Break (week after Easter). And she will not be happy if the climate control is not working.
Same problem that I had about a year and a half ago. I could not change the temperature by more than a degree or two and the system would not turn off. I checked out a repair place but they could not repair it. I bought a re-manufactured unit from a place in Connecticut. I had to also send them my old unit. It has worked fine.
Yes, the guy in Connecticut was the one I got the refurbished unit from a couple of years ago. I went ahead and ordered another one from a different refurbisher. I was leery of going back to the guy in Connecticut - the guy I ordered from this time replaces the bulbs with LEDs.
With what I've spent ($125 to the guy in Connecticut, $100 to TStar to replace the overheating bulbs, and now another $135 for another refurbished unit) I could have bought a brand new unit. To quote Roseann Rosannadanna, "It's always something!"
