Default Lifter difference?

So I had to replace one of my lifters after the roller shaft came loose and gouged the lifter bore. I have two sets from my engine and another LS-1 that I picked up.
There are some design differences. Nothing that appears important but I wonder what might be the difference. I asked if someone knew the difference between LS-1 and LS-7 that so many people swear by.

There is no swearing by the LS7 lifter. It is the only lifter you can get now and be OEM. The LS7 lifter is the stock replacement for the LS1. Over on tech they are saying over and over that .050 shorter pushrods are needed with the new version though.

I just installed LS7 lifters in my project. There is no difference in any dimension from my original 2000 LS-1 lifters.
They even look identical.

Not to say GM didn't make some changes, but since the LS7 superceeds all previous part numbers, my inclination is to believe the dimensions are the same. They are in my case.

there are some pictures floating around of the cup of a LS1 and LS7 lifter that show the LS7 lifter cup is in a different position than the LS1.

This comes up all the time on LS1Tech. Conclusion is there's no difference that would warrant any different length pushrod. The LS7 lifter is the only lifter you can buy as OEM replacement from GM for the LS1/LS6 ... so GM is saying it's a drop in replacement.
