I've had the same problem EXACTLY! I couldn't roll up my windows and I was stuck in my driveway. No codes other than "NO COMM" for all modules. I had not done any modifications other than the Z06 Airbox w/ K&N Filter, the CAGS Eliminator, and my recently installed Corsa exhaust. I called and talked to Ken Fitchner's service rep., Bob (not the same Bob in parts, but a great guy nonetheless). Bob thought it might be either the serial data communications circuit or one of the several modules that the circuit connects might be failing. He said it could be "a bear to diagnose". He had never experienced this problem with a Vette, but had a similar experience with a Buick Regal. Other than call my local dealer, he couldn't offer anymore advise.
So now I'm fretfully realizing some things. ONE: I will have to call the dealer for immediate help. TWO: I will have to admit to my wife and friends that my brand new Vette is dead in the water in my own driveway! I can't even roll up the windows if it rains! and THREE: I couldn't think of "THREE" because "ONE" and "TWO" were bad enough!
In despair, I pondered my options and tried to think "Out of the Box". Oh yeah! <Ctrl-Alt-Del> I've learned as a pilot and a computer nut that you can sometimes get things back up and running if you strangle some electrons or if possible, split the bus. I disconnected the battery for approximately 10 seconds and you guessed it, it worked.
My car came back with the following codes:
28 - TCS U1016H, U1000H
58 - SDM U1016H, U1040H, U1096H, and U1064H
So what do these codes tell me, a pilot and not a mechanic? The Traction Control (TCS) module is complaining that it hadn't properly "heard" from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (U1016). The Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) is complaining that it hadn't heard from PCM (U1016), the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) (U1040), the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) (U1096), and the Body Control Module (BCM) (U1064). Whoa! Clear as mud?
So why did disconnecting the battery at least temporarily solve my severe problem. I don't know. I left my codes in the memory and I'm taking my car in on Monday, 20 May to hopefully find an answer. I hope this one is easy for a trained mechanic with a TECH 2.
I'll tell you the final diagnosis when I get it. Most people on the forum call it a "Gremlin".
i had chev come in with a flat bed truck and take it to dealer that is where it is right now i have 11,200 miles on car will let you know what the teck has to say i hope by the mid of next week. car was runing super ?????
Have either of you had the column lock replaced or installed the bypass? If the column lock does not disengage quickly enough after putting the key in, it can cause numerous communication problems. In my case, it was problems with the seat control module, body control module and memory functions for seat, steering wheel, and mirrors.
For me, the short answer is "No". I'll keep the column lock problem in mind when I take the car in. I've yet to understand what the deal is with the column lock in the first place. Has this been a problem for all C5's or has GM fixed the problem prior to my car? My car is an '02. Thanks!
I had that problem and had to replace the PCM and ECM. They said that the communication with the computer was lost and the only way to get it running was to replace it.
Good Luck! :chevy :flag
Just an update on my checkup. The mechanic could find nothing wrong with the car at the dealership. In the military we call this "CND" (Can Not Duplicate). I'm leaving the Vette with them overnight. I wish I had something more to go on but that's it. I'm still getting an occassional "Charge System Fault" on the DIC when I start the car in the morning but no other problems. My guess is I will be dealing with this again in the future. Cheers.
