Default TPS all dead

So I get vert out of storage last week and all of my TPS are apparently dead. I get the message to service the tire pressure sensors. Is it likely that all 4 batteries died at once, or should I be looking at something else?

If I am not mistaken, after a long period of sleep the TPMS sensors have to wake up. I believe it takes a few miles and some speed like 25 mph to activate them. Try driving around and see if they don't start working again. If not, I would try reprogramming them with a big magnet. Many posts here on how to do. Good Luck.

If your TPMS sensors are the originals from 2000, chances are the batteries in them have reached the end of their useful life.

Put a fresh set of batteries in a flashlight, and then try it after storing it for 12 years. Batteries will self-discharge over time, whether in use or not.

I'll bet that if you drive it around some they'll wake up for you!

I realize that I am asking a lot of 12 year old batteries and knew replacement was inevetible but was hoping to wait until I need new tires. Can't seem to wear out these BFG Super Sports. Anyway, I just can't believe that all 4 died at the same time. I will get the magnet out and reprogram them to see if they come back.
Thanks for the replies.

Its possible they all died at the same time but there could be other reasons. Batteries normally throw up XXX messages on the DIC tire pressure page unless they are absolutely dead.

Assuming you've driven the car and they TPSs haven't come out of "hibernation", if you got the service message on the DIC you will have some codes. Post them up and it should answer the question.

Not wanting to hijack but similar situation. First, It's a 99 and I don't have it legal to drive on the road yet. I have no messages on the DIC. But when you press gauges the LF RF ect come up blank. I have no idea if they have been changed or are original. Any ideas what's going on here. I have new wheels and need to get tires. Trying to decide how to go with the sensors.

They will read blank if the car is not being driven. You could try the program procedure to see if they respond. Once the tires are off and with the sensors exposed, you can look for the date code on them.

OK, thanks. What I think I'll do is have my tire shop pull the sensors out of these wheels and put regular valves in for now. Then I can check the dates and go from there on the new shoes.

Just so you know, if you do that you'll get a DIC warning every time you start up. You'll get a DIC warning saying the TPSs are not operating.

Yeah I know. It's just temporary until I get the new wheels & tires fitted with whatever I end up with for sensors.

Okay. I reprogramed them last night and all are working now. It is possible that the sensors were replaced before I bought the car with 56,000 on it and they may not be 12 years old. Now it's on to replacing both serpentine belts before heading off the Hilton Head Island. Thanks for the replies.

Good news on the TPMS sensors.

The A/C belt can be a stinker to replace. There is a how-to-do posted in an earlier thread. Good luck with it.
