Sorry for probably such a simple stupid question but I really want to understand what they do and what is the difference it the different types. Is a 3000 better than a 2500; what is the difference? I am looking to add 3.42 gears and I was told to add a 3000 converter as well.
The torque converter simply turns (converts) torque into forward motion. The more torque a particular engine makes, the more stall the same converter will have in different cars.
Hi there,
Also, with a higher stall speed converter, you MUST also remember, you develop more heat, through fluid shearing.
This is why a transmission cooler, to supplant the stock cooler, is always recommended.
