I have a 2000 C5 with Corsa exhaust, use Shell 93 octane gas and when the car has fully warmed up has an exhaust smell. When I have been on cruises the car behind me stays back more than normal to not have to smell the exhaust. In your opinion are the Catalytic converters defective and if so is there anything short of changing them to rectify this situation like putting in an additive in the gas? What are your recommendations?
i would still say it is the cats. the rear 02 sensors monitor the life of the cats and when the cats start to go wierd stuff starts to happen to the fueling. people are getting rid of theirs all the time to go catless, i would try to get a set of used oem ones off the forum here and try those.

What do I need to go catless; do I just take out the cats and replace with straight pipe and how does that effect the 02 sensors?
when most people go catless they get long tubes and a H or X pipe that doesnt have them. for example my TSP long tube and X pipe deletes the cats and the bungs for the rear sensors. you have to get the car tuned to turn off the rear sensors or you will get a CEL and the fuel table will have to be readjusted or it will stink because of too much fuel. best bet is to just have them replaced if you dont want to get it tuned at this point.
Does it smell like rotten eggs or fuel? If it is rotten eggs all the time then your cats are toast and keep in mind it can only get WORSE if you remove the cats all together.
