Update:

Engine will be going back together soon.

Same A&A Vortech V3 kit
New (used) LS1 block
Diamond -2cc pistons with anodized coating
Total Seal rings
Callies Compstar rods (with arp 2000 bolts I assume?)
ARP head bolts
Comp lifters
LS6 cam
TSP oil pump
Rollmaster double roller set
Norris catch can
Gutted cats
Borla Stinger cat back (hmmm, may be a little raspy)

Sound ok?

I'm still going to replace the valvesprings, but not sure what I will use yet. Builder is recommending a set of 918s. I know the pressure would be fine, I would just prefer the insurance of a dual spring. I hear all kinds of stuff about broken 918s, but I don't actually recall any of them failing on stock cams. Picking up another block and getting the pistons coated blew my budget off a bit so I have a little less to throw at other upgrades. Every other component is dead stock. I'm thinking I will increase boost to maybe 9lbs for an even 600hp?

Wow do some of you guys waste money, or what? Mahle forged drop ins, 550. Scat pro-comp rods, 300. melling 10296, 150. King alecular coated bearings 80.00. That is budget and will hold a crapload of power. I have done quite a few on this forum now, and am amazed at how much some guys waste on parts.

I'm planning my own forged build right now so following this as I make my shopping list.
Two things:
1 Cheaper isn't cheaper if it fails and you have to redo it
2 Build stronger than you think you need. You might end up with more boost than planned down the road

I just ordered the PRC .650 spring kit. I'm using an LS6 cam with stock LS1 heads and rockers, comp lifters. I went ahead and ordered longer pushrods. For a basic LS6 cam, stock LS1 head setup, do people usually measure for PR length or just go ahead and put the 7.425 rods in?

OK, I don't think I can resist throwing a set of headers in while the engine is out. Hell, I can save almost the whole cost of the headers just in labor. I figure making it easier for all that forced air to get back out is probably a good idea and might lower chamber/EG temps some.

If you guys have a better way to spend the $800 then I'm all ears. Well, I guess I will have to add another $400 for a zo6 catback since headers through Borla Stingers is probably a bit much for me.

If installing headers go ahead and wrap your wires down around the starter are with heat tape. Trust me on this.

OK, I will try to have that done as well. Sounds like you have had some issues with it.

I'm planning on using the TSP coated headers. Anyone have experience with them?
