Default Stroker engine question

Is there a downside to a stroker engine?
Do you loose low end power or does it produce power throughout the power band?
Is there a way to estimate power gains from a specific CI increase?

The only downside would be trying to get the tires to hook. You should pick up some low end power in general with a stroker motor but a lot still depends on the heads and cam you match it up with. To many variables. What kind of set up were you looking at?

I'm not sure yet. After reading your comment, it sounds like a great modification to me

Less gas mileage if you keep you foot in it
I have a 414 (6peed) & 417(Auto) in C5s all pump gas................best bang for the $$$ when matched with your intended use, gear ratio and TC. Less weight, heat and rotating parts than FI too!

There is really no downside for a street motor b/c increasing the stroke puts the power lower in the rpm range, where most of your street driving is done. If you want a really high RPM motor a short stroke big bore motor would be the better choice.

I had a 383 stroker in a 72 Camaro and it was kick ***. I would love to have one in a C5.

You'll get slightly less gas mileage but not much. You will also have much less traction. You may want to visit the mini tub thread...

What do you want your car to do?

Then base your conversations with an engine builder about what you want your car to do?

Let that engine builder make suggestions. and Go from there

No and yes

an engine is an airpump, its output can be calulated

slightly more oil consumption is the one thing you never hear people or shops say but that is one thing that does occur
