Re: Instructions for installing third brake light "blinker/flasher" ??? (goldman)
I just put mine in about aweek ago...very easy install. Unscrew the four torx screws holding the license plate/reverse light mount, release the drivers side reverse light by twisting, reach up to the 3rd brake light and release the harness. Plug in the aftermarket harness to the brake light and the OEM harness into the new one, adjust the settings for speed and duration using a small flathead screwdriver and put everything back together. Takes about ten minutes...great safety mod!
Re: Instructions for installing third brake light "blinker/flasher" ??? (vstella)
Simple install, just follow the directions...great product!:D
Unless you are the car behind someone that has flashing lights. I was following Vince a couple of weeks ago and could not take my eyes off that damned thing. It drove me nuts. Guess it did what it was supposed to do, got my attention and kept it. :smash:
Re: Instructions for installing third brake light "blinker/flasher" ??? (16Again)
Not making my own... I bought a "generic" for $36 (includes shipping).
Instead of blinking (which annoys me also).. It's supposed to "gently flutter" for about 1 second & then goes on steady & stays steady.
Only problem is that you have to splice into the wires instead of just plugging it in since it's generic to fit any car. The blinking ones annoy me also, that's why I thought I'd try this even if the install is a little harder. With black-outs on my lights, I'm paranoid about not being seen.
I'll try to get it installed tomorrow & let you know how it looks/works. They also sell Sequential Turn Signals & also something that converts your front turn signals to DRLs.
Their website says...
"automatically flashes for about 1 second, then turns it on steady. It is designed to create a gentle fluttering of light, so your car is more noticeable, yet it doesn't aggravate the drivers behind you."

From a previous post, I ordered the "Flash Alert" for $20 + free shipping from M D Wright Inc 1-800-980-3517. I will not receive it until the first of the week so I don't know if the unit has connectors or if I will have to splice the wires on the install.
Re: Instructions for installing third brake light "blinker/flasher" ??? (KC98C5)
Does the "flasher" from LAPD have any adjustability?? I thought I saw one from SOMEWHERE that you could adjust the rate of flashing?
Was thinking about this little mod myself, but didn't know if people would think it was "rice".... It's nice to see a few Vette guys out there already doing it.
Re: Instructions for installing third brake light "blinker/flasher" ??? (dads01dream)
The B-Alert flasher can be adjusted for both speed and duration. IMHO I would spend the extra cash ($69) for the B-Alert flasher instead having to splice any wires. As far as this mod being "rice", I dont agree. Anything that makes driving safer is a good mod in my book. These cars are so low that we are prone to be rear ended by trucks and SUV's. Not sure if you saw the other post about someone being rear ended by a transport truck but that is a perfect example of what I am speaking about. The first words out of the truck driver's mouth was "I didnt see you!" Who knows if the B-Alert could have avoided the accident but for $69 its worth a try!
Re: Instructions for installing third brake light "blinker/flasher" ??? (WWK888)
The statement above is exactly the reason I installed the b-alert. I have not had any complaints and even if I do get any I really do not give a poop, if it even helps 1% to prevent me from being rearended it is $ well spent
Re: Instructions for installing third brake light "blinker/flasher" ??? (PJW001)
I agree completely with you guys.... If the B-alert helps to avoid even "ONE" incident, it's money well spent. Please don't take any offense concerning the "rice" comment, I for one don't think it is at all but i was curious what other Vette owners thought.
Hearing all this praise has me thinking I've got some shopping to do. :)
