Default Replacing C5 Thermostat?

Bad news is OEM Radiator finally cracked, Great News a brand new DeWitt arrives today!

Besides replacing with all new hoses and coolant, also decided good time for brand new thermostat. Everything brand new!

Question: it appears the T-Stat is a two piece design including stat and water neck housing, ok, more than what is needed but whatever, do I need to use RTV Sealant around the water neck housing, there was only a small rubber washer for around the stat?

What about the larger surface area, am I missing a needed gasket?

Do I use some RTV? Is nothing needed there?

Appreciate any help, thanks!

Apply silicone grease to o ring, to hold it in place
Apply anti seize to threads of bolt.
Apply 89 INCH.LB of torque to bolts
Good luck

My 2002 with LS1 engine has a one piece thermostat/housing unit with an o-ring. The thermostat cannot be separated from the housing and the whole unit must be replaced.

Can you post a photo of the stat you have? Something doesn't sound right and I am wondering if you have the one for the replacement water pump rather than the original water pump.

Not to start a war, but make sure to use the stock temp thermo, this has been discussed a lot on here.

I was so baffled when I first came on the Corvette forums with all talk of going with a cooler tstat for street cars. I would agree that stock is best.... 180F would be fine too.

That does get discussed around here a lot. I decided that I would go with whatever the company I was paying to build my engine recommended and then didnt even ask.

Don't have a photo, but it is my understanding that all C5s (except late 2004s) came with the combined thermostat/inlet housing. If you still have an original water pump with casting #12562459, you have to buy the whole thermostat/inlet housing when replacing the thermostat. But now when you buy a replacement water pump from GM, it is of more conventional style with a replaceable thermostat. Confusing, isn't it.
