I am going nuts trying to figure out the source of a rattling sound in my hatch area.... I have been under the car 3 times and I have taken out the hatch interior and I still can't isolate the sound. It occurs when I hit a bump, small or large, there are bumps everywhere in this town. It sounds like the source should be really obvious, but I can't find ANYTHING wrong. I recorded the audio, had to covert to video so I could post on photo bucket. While recording the audio I was going 25-35 mph through town. Tell me what you think it is....
Mhere are you located? Maybe one of the members in your are could go for a ride and assist you in finding it. I could not tell by the recording. G/L

I fixed it.... I can't believe it, what a relief !!!!
I think it was the rear sway bar, I noticed a small gap between the mounts and the frame (hard to see this) so I tightened up the nuts....they were not tight but not exactly loose either. The gap is gone after tightening the nuts. I had also removed the inner wheel wells, just searching for the issue....but did not really find anything there. I just drove all over the place and hit every bump I could find, this car has NEVER been so quiet before. Now all I hear is the normal thud sound when you hit a bump.....I LOVE THAT SOUND.
I've had this same noise for 2+ years! Never able to find it. Now I might have a go and tighten up the anti sways. Thanks for posting!
I hope it helps..... I am REALLY happy I finally fixed this, the car is sooooo much more fun to drive without the rattling noises. I was seriously considering my other options, but now I will be keeping the car.
krtw, been there, done that! When I bought my '00 Coupe a couple of years ago, same rattling, drove me crazy! Tightened up the sway bar ends and fixed the rattle. My car has a Hotchkis sway bar and I was thinking maybe they are more prone to this but if yours is stock, I guess maybe not. Glad you found the culprit too!!
I dont know where the rattle is coming from. I replaced the end links, tightened up the sway bar. Yesterday I got under the car with zip ties and secured everything. It's still rattling back there! But it is better.
Another thing I had done was I added a spring across my exhaust hanger springs. Search the net for: Twisted Underground Thread 316. This forum won't let me post the link...lame.
This did not solve my issue, but it was worth a try and may help you.
