For the past couple of days I've noticed that my headlights pop up when I turn the switch on to the parking lights location. It didn't use to do that before.
Has something gone out ?
Any ideas where to look for the problem ?
If it only happens intermittently, it may be a problem with the switch. I haven't ever taken one out, but I can't imagine it would be super hard/expensive to replace.

not intermittently.... for the last couple of days it happens every time I turn on the parking lights.
Its not suppose to turn on the headlamps or cause them to rise as long as you did not rotate the switch all the way to the headlamp position. However, if you have the twight sentinel option, its possible they might come up. Make sure the sentinel is turned off in the DIC then try again. If they still come up, then yes, you need a new headlamp switch or take out and apart the existing switch and start carefully cleaning the contacts inside.

Thanks in advance guys.
This is also a sign of your headlight gear going bad. Mine did the same thing before they started to grind. Strange that it's both headlights though, so it could be something different. Do you still have the original nylon gears in there?

After doing some searches and reading. I'm starting to this it's the driver side headlight gear.
Yes, I still have the OEM nylon gears as I don't think the original owner ever changed it. Looks like I'll start out purchasing and swapping out both headlight gears with the upgrade brass gears and go from there.
So with that said, do you guys think swapping out the fears (if that truely is the problem) will fix the problem with the head lights popping up when the parking lights are turned on ??

I don't see how it can have anything to do with the gears. Both lights pop up, just not on the correct switch setting. Sounds like the turn signal/ headlight switch as suggested by dgrant3830.

The driver side head light is slow to come up as compared to the passenger side. I'm going to try the head light gears first as it's the cheaper fix and then go from there.

Mine was doing this until I changed the setting in the DIC.
my car did the same when the headlight gear was failing. although mine was not bad enough to have any other symptoms. no grinding or any other sounds. but there were broken teeth when I removed it.
for some reason that I still cant' explain I saw the problem even after replacing the gear for a couple of weeks, then it just vanished. its been fine for years now. I still think the gear was the problem, no idea why it still happened a few times after that point.
