My passenger outside mirror on my 2004 coupe broke when a cabinet fell off the wall and hit the mirror. I was lucky it only broke the mounting "plastic snap" on the inside of the mirror on the mirror motor and the mirror popped of just hanging by the 2 heating wires. I used JB Weld to fix it. I have a memory mirror with heating elements. There are 2 wires for the heat and I had to pull them off their terminals to fix it. I did not mark them (I know that was dumb) and don't know which goes on which terminal or even if it matters. Does anyone know if it matters how they reconnect? I am thinking they are both 12V but don't want to take a chance and short out something.

The polarity of the two heating wires is irrelevant. You can put them on either way. The heating element simply "completes" a circuit. It doesn't matter which way the current goes thru the lines, since the element simply heats up. It will heat up no matter which way the wires are connected. And it only comes on when you use your rear defroster if I remember correctly. (Could be wrong on this part)

Thank you! I am waiting for the JB Weld to cure then I will try and get it put back together.

Schematic incase the question should come up again. Ditto what was said above, doesn't matter which wire goes on which terminal. It's a resistor which is not polarity conscious.
Thank you all. I got it back together with the wires connected. However the memory function is not working correctly. I am going to leave it alone for now. At least the mirror is attached and I can adjust it.
