My 2002 Engine Taps.....
My 2002 MN6 has about 300 miles on it now and I have noticed that when you first crank it, it sounds like something is tapping very loud under the hood after driving a few miles it stops and is fine for the rest of the trip. What the heck is this? I have read a few posts in the past about something like this, but can't find them now. The tapping IS related to RPMs in that it gets faster as you push the gas pedal. :confused:

Piston Slap, that is what was happening. Is there a fix from GM or is that the way of the car or what?

Thanks...I can live with it as long as nothing is being damaged. It is doing exactly what the article said at the bottom about the knocking. It isn't using any oil etc...Thanks

my 02 also taps when cold but it has becomes less as i get more miles on it. i now have about 900 miles and i hardly hear it now. :chevy

It's funny but my current Corvette is the first Chevy I've ever owned that doesn't make that noise. All my Z28's and my '96 LT4 made that tapping noise. I just learned to live with it.
