I had the same problems that everyone else had installing the Blackwing. The clamp on the MAF was not a screw type but rather a crimped on type so it had to be pried off. The electrical connector on the MAF did NOt have any kind of a key as described in the directions. It is an early 98 vert and apparently they were still using a regular clip-on connector. It took several attempts to get the bridge, MAF, and Blackwing lined up so that the bridge would sit down on the groumets and that was after a 15 minute search for one of the rubber groumets that popped off when I removed the bridge.
Once I got it all back together it was time for a road test. It took a little while for the PCM to "learn" the new airflow. A couple of test at WOT on the highway caused the A4 to upshift quickly and bog down because it was just not used to the big gulp of air. But once it "learned".....WOW!! :D :D
I shut off the traction control and floored it from a dead stop. It usually spun the tires for a few seconds and then hooked up. Now, they broke loose and I probably could have melted them into the pavement if I had not let up.
It sure felt like there were 18 more HP! A couple of quick runs at WOT quickly climbed up to 130-140MPH in a heartbeat. I had to back out of it because there was still some traffic on the highway. It sounds better and runs stronger than ever. IMHO it is the best performance mod for the least amount of money. Thanks Exit 28 Motorsports, great deal!! :) I'm very pleased . Now if I could only convince my wife that I need a new exhaust system to make it sound louder it will be Corsa Indy time!!!
Just got mine on Friday from Exit28.....I love it! Also installed TTS headers, and a Corsa X-pipe to go with my Indy's. My wife says that this was my Memorial Day, Fathers Day adn Christmas all at the same time!! The mod budget might be limited for the rest of the year......
To get mine to lay flat I had to remove the worn gear clamp. Didn't see how it did anything. I lubed all the fittings so that puppy just about installed it self.
I haven't noticed any major gains since I was using the LS6 lid and K&N filter so I'm guessing I gained just a few extra HP - but every bit helps.
Every Blackwing install is different I have found. Wish some one could explain that to me.

Tom, every bit of HP gained help; but is it worth the extra $100.00 needed to buy the Blackwing?
I have another question for you as well as to those of you who like creativities, I believed some of you had using hole saw or some neat cutting tools to cut holes into the black plastic housing (the parts that located next to the fog lights)to let more cold air into the engine compartment and the new air filter you guys were paying hundreds of dollars for, now my question is some of you guys have bought or thinking about buying the ZO6 or LS6 air lid to replace the LS1 air lid, same concept, why not take the old air lid out and drill a few holes or cut a bigger hole into the air lid, wouldn't that let more air into the filter and save about $50.00 for the new ZO6's lid?

This past weekend I Swiss cheesed the stock airbox on my '01 vert by drilling a whole bunch of holes in it (the holes are 7/8" for anyone wondering). I can't prove a damn thing, because I don't have timeslips, dyno data, or even a G-Tech, however, as I was driving around this weekend after the mod, the engine sure did seem to reach the redline a lot quicker than before the mod. I hit the redline more this weekend than I had the whole year up to this point, and up until now I've been pretty good about shifting just shy of redline. Perhaps I was just over zealous, hoping to have found a few free ponies, but I think I've got a little more top end than before. I can't wait to replace the stock filter with a K&N (on order). I can always bring some duct tape and my stock filter the next time I go to the strip...in fact, I think I'll do that to see if I can get some slightly scientific data. I will of course keep the forum posted.
Hello all this is my first post since joining two weeks ago, great forum
I also just installed the Black Wing on a 99 A4 coupe monday night mine is also from exit 28 :)
My MAF clip was also just a regular connector no grey key. the only hitch
I had in installing was that the rubber gasket on the BW needed to be turned 180 Deg so cut out matched MAF bump or raised area. The fit was great first time lays flat no problems at all. I will say getting the BW on the lower grommets was a PITA though. I did not get to drive the car around but I noticed when i gased it it popped and gurgled out the exhaust way more than with the stock air filter it was also running rougher I hope that goes away when the computer re Adjusts af ratio it seems to have gotten better after the drive to work this morning but that was stop and go I think I need to take a extended drive at all RPMs This is my first mod I was a little apprehensive about all the reported problems with the air bridge not laying down I guess i must have begginers luck :D

I installed a Blackwing from LAPD and did the idle relearn procedure that Shawn recommends. It is awesome. Yesterday, I had an extra MAF sensor ported and polished with the center wing removed. Hopefully it will be good for a few more HP. :yesnod:
The main advantage the factory LS6 lid has over cutting holes in the LS1 lid is water injestion. The duct on the LS6 lid is recessed in to the housing. So any wanter that gets in from the top will roll down the face of the LS6 lid and not touch the filter. So far with the B/W I've washed my car twice and even after drying the outside of the hood completely when I've opened it to finish off the edges etc water would still run down the perimeter of the hood and down to the center and run onto the B/W so I had to place an old T-shirt over the B/W while I dried off the underside and edges of the hood. I have a hood seal so I'm not worried about rain or wash water getting in but the hood collects a lot of water and ALL of it will gravity feed to the lowest point of the hood which is directly above the B/W.
So I guess all the $$$$ some GM engineers parents spent for college paid off. The LS6 lid really is a simple and effective breathing device for the LS1/6. Not as sexy as the B/W but you gotta give GM's R&D credit where due.
And like I said I don't believe I picked up any major HP gains by switching to the B/W. A few maybe but that's where I'm at in my hunt for more HP.
Got my Blackwing from Exit 28 today and Installed it with a LAPD Powerduct and high flow coupler..... wow!
There is a noticeable difference. I swear there is a difference in the exhaust when decelerating... hard to describe.
Anyhow I am stoked on the whole setup.
Oh yeah... I finally figured out how to post my pic of my 02 in my sig... There it is!
